ATDC Signs MoU with Tata Group for Tourism Projects in Assam

Guwahati: The Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amalgamated Plantations Private Limited (APPL) and the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), both subsidiaries of Tata Group. The signing ceremony, held at Lok Sewa Bhawan, was attended by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran.

The MoU, signed by ATDC Managing Director Padmapani Bora, IHCL CEO Puneet Chhatwal, and APPL MD and CEO Sukhjeet Singh Malhotra, includes plans for opening a Taj Resort and Spa with an investment of Rs. 120 crore. Additionally, APPL and IHCL will establish modern hotel and hospitality infrastructure at Kaziranga. ATDC will act as the nodal agency for project implementation on behalf of the Government of Assam. Chief Minister Dr. Sarma expressed gratitude to the Tata Group for partnering with the state in promoting eco-tourism. He emphasized that the venture would contribute to the overall development of tourism in Assam, generating at least 200 direct employment opportunities and enhancing the luxury hospitality experience in Kaziranga.

Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran praised Assam’s natural beauty and potential as a world-class tourist destination. He announced that the Vivanta chain in Guwahati would be upgraded to a Taj Hotel and that a Taj Gateway hotel would be established between Guwahati and Jagiroad. The event was also attended by Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, Handloom and Textile Minister UG Brahma, Labour and Employment Minister Sanjoy Kisan, Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, Principal Secretary Tourism Dr. JB Ekka, Tata Electronics MD and CEO Randhir Thakur, and other dignitaries.
