Guwahati: Assamese feature film Rador Pakhi (Morning Sunshine), directed by acclaimed filmmaker Dr. Bobby Sarma Baruah, has won the Jury Special Mention – Super Mama Award at the International Film Festival Made by Women in Moscow, adding another international accolade to its growing list of achievements.
The film was officially selected in the Competition Section of the festival, held in the Russian capital from July 8 to 12, 2026. The honour marks a significant milestone in the film’s successful journey across national and international film festivals.
Inspired by the real-life story of writer Sarmistha Pritam, Rador Pakhi follows the inspiring journey of Jyoti, an aspiring writer from Assam who is diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy at a young age. Despite severe physical challenges, she refuses to give up on her dreams, striving to live independently and pursue her passion for writing. Her resilience and determination form the emotional heart of the film.
Expressing her joy over the recognition, director Dr. Bobby Sarma Baruah said the award was a proud moment for the entire team.
“Our journey became even more meaningful as Rador Pakhi received the Jury Special Mention – Super Mama Award. Receiving this recognition on an international platform is truly an honour and a proud moment for our entire team,” she said.
She credited the success to the collective efforts of the cast and crew, while thanking friends, well-wishers, and audiences for their unwavering support.
“This recognition belongs to every member of our incredible cast and crew, whose passion and hard work brought this story to life. Your love, prayers, and constant encouragement have made this journey possible,” she added.
Even before its latest success in Moscow, Rador Pakhi had built an impressive festival record. The film was selected for the NFDC Film Bazaar Co-Production Market and later had its premiere in the Indian Panorama section of the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa in 2024.
In 2025, the film was showcased in the Asian Spectrum section of the 21st Third Eye Asian Film Festival in Mumbai, the 23rd Pune International Film Festival, and the Indian Competition section of the 16th Bengaluru International Film Festival. It also featured at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, the 20th International Film Festival of Thrissur, and the Mosaic International Film Festival in Canada.
Its selection and recognition at the International Film Festival Made by Women in Moscow in 2026 further expanded the film’s international footprint and brought wider global attention to Assamese cinema.
Produced by Basanta Kumar Baruah, Dr. Bobby Sarma Baruah, and Sulakhyana Baruah, the film stars Sulakhyana Baruah, Kamal Lochan, Arun Nath, and Bina Patangia in pivotal roles.
Dr. Baruah said the latest honour would inspire the team to continue creating meaningful cinema capable of resonating with audiences across cultures and geographical boundaries.
