Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday held a video conference with college principals and district commissioners (DCs) from across the state to review the upcoming college admission process for 2025-26 and implementation of student welfare schemes.
The meeting, held at Lok Sewa Bhawan, was also attended by Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu and senior government officials.
During the discussion, the Chief Minister took updates on:
- Number of UG admission applications received by colleges so far
- Free admission process through the Samarth Portal
- Progress of the Nijut Moina Scheme
- Preparations for the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award under the Pragyan Bharati Scheme
Dr. Sarma instructed college principals and DCs to ensure timely and smooth implementation of all schemes.
He clarified that ration cards will be the main proof for income eligibility in free admissions. If a student doesn’t have a ration card, they must submit an income certificate showing annual income below ₹4 lakh to qualify.
On the Nijut Moina scheme, the CM asked colleges to provide full support for effective execution during the 2025-26 financial year.
For the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award, Dr. Sarma reviewed the number of students scoring 80% and above in the Higher Secondary exams. He said the government will begin awarding scooties to eligible students starting October 2025. He urged principals and DCs to work together in preparing a complete list of deserving students.
Principal Secretary to CM Dr. KK Dwivedi, Secretary of Higher Education Narayan Konwar, and other top officials were also present at the conference.
