Guwahati: Guwahati Police have uncovered a major financial scam worth Rs 1.75 crore and arrested two people in connection with the case. The key accused, Kabita Baishya, allegedly tricked a family by giving them fake gold and making false promises of a business partnership.
An FIR was filed at Chandmari Police Station, and during a raid at her house in Jyotinagar, police arrested Kabita and her son, Sourabh Baishya, who was also involved in the scam.
During the raid, police recovered several items including 40 cheques worth Rs 5 crore, five pairs of fake gold bangles, six bank passbooks, four fake financial agreements, over 60 important documents, jewellery receipts worth Rs 5 lakh, and two vehicles.
Police are continuing their investigation and verifying if more people were cheated in this scam.
