Award-winning photographer, director and visual storyteller Somsubhro Sarkaar has announced a new global cultural initiative centred around the identity, culture and heritage of Northeast India.
Known for leading the widely recognised campaign “#MyIdentityMyPride (#FundYourOwnWorth),” Sarkaar said his latest creative vision, titled “#GAZE,” aims to explore perception and storytelling beyond conventional boundaries.
According to Sarkaar, the concept of #GAZE represents a creative space where perception moves beyond the ordinary and allows deeper exploration of culture, identity and human connection. Inspired by his long-standing admiration for Bihu and the cultural richness of the Northeast, the project seeks to present the region on a wider international platform.
Unlike his earlier individual creative journey, Sarkaar will now be joined by a team of professionals from corporate and advertising backgrounds, including Ruma Chakraborty, Bornita Deka and Sreelekha Maitra.
The initiative has also received support from noted fashion designer Dipankar Kasyap, who has worked with Bollywood personalities including Priyanka Chopra, Aditi Gowatrikar, Raima Sen and Koena Mitra. Kasyap, who hails from Assam, reportedly extended his support to the project with the aim of showcasing the authentic cultural identity of the Northeast to global audiences.
The project is also being supported by Jutikaa Mahanta, who expressed support for initiatives promoting Northeast India and its cultural heritage on international platforms.
The team behind the project stated that the initiative aims to create a strong global narrative around the culture, artistry and spirit of Northeast India through visual storytelling and collaborative creative work.
