Guwahati: The Guwahati Police Crime Branch has busted a human trafficking racket in the city after receiving a complaint on April 19, 2026.
Police said the group was involved in serious crimes like human trafficking, sexual exploitation, wrongful confinement, assault, and extortion.
According to the investigation, the accused targeted people through online job platforms by offering fake job opportunities. After trapping them, victims were allegedly forced into illegal activities and later blackmailed using their private photos and videos.
During the operation, police arrested three persons, including two women. Several items were seized, including five mobile phones, one laptop, over 70 SIM cards, contraceptives, and around Rs 3.8 lakh in cash.
Police officials said the case points to a well-organised network. Further investigation is ongoing to identify more people involved and check if the racket has links outside the city.
