Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal Praises Assam’s Tea Industry

Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal took to X yesterday to highlight Assam’s rich tea legacy. Sharing a part of his Advantage Assam speech in Assamese, he appreciated the state’s natural wealth and heritage.

Agarwal emphasized Assam’s 200-year-old tea industry, noting that small tea gardens are expanding alongside large plantations, bringing a positive transformation. Assam produces over 50% of India’s tea, generating 650 million kg annually and supporting 3 million livelihoods. The sector contributes 3% to India’s GDP, with small tea growers producing 400 million kg of green leaf.

He also praised the government’s proactive steps, including guarantee-free loans and advanced agricultural technology, which are empowering young entrepreneurs. With fertile land, strong policies, and a rich heritage, Assam is set to take its globally renowned tea industry to new heights.
