Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today inaugurated the Radha Govinda Barua Path, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Path, and an RCC bridge over the Mora Bharalu river near Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The project aims to improve city connectivity and ease traffic for sports fans visiting the stadium.
Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Path, 7.39 km long, connects Barsapara Cricket Stadium to NH-27 near ISBT. The Chief Minister said this road will serve as an alternative route to NH-27 for people from Barsapara, Fatasil, Kalapahar, and Colony Bazar. It will also help commuters reach schools and hospitals along NH-27 bypass more easily.
Dr. Sarma noted that during cricket matches, these roads will reduce traffic congestion and provide a convenient route to the stadium. The newly opened Radha Govinda Barua Road will further improve access to the stadium’s entry and exit gates and link to Guwahati Garbhanga Road.
The RCC bridge over Mora Bharalu will connect both roads, allowing smooth movement between different gates of the stadium. Dr. Sarma assured that more roads in Guwahati will be upgraded soon.
The project cost ₹14.74 crore, and several dignitaries, including Minister Prasanta Phukan, MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Mayor Mrigen Sarania, and GMDA Deputy Chairman Mukuta Deka, attended the event.
