The United States has advised its citizens not to travel to certain parts of India due to safety concerns. These areas include Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, the India-Pakistan border, and regions in central and eastern India where Naxalites are active.

In a new travel advisory, the US State Department updated its information on the northeastern states of India. They have asked travelers to be more cautious in India due to crime and terrorism, noting that some areas are riskier than others.

India is generally classified as a Level 2 travel destination, meaning visitors should exercise increased caution. However, several regions are classified as Level 4, which means they should not be visited. These areas include Jammu and Kashmir (except for eastern Ladakh and Leh), within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border, parts of central and eastern India due to terrorism, and Manipur due to violence and crime.

The advisory also suggests that Americans reconsider travel to the northeastern states because of terrorism and violence. Additionally, US government employees need prior approval before visiting Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and areas outside the capital cities of Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
