The Union Budget 2025-26 has received praise from some experts, industry leaders, and farmers. The budget introduces key initiatives to improve farming, boost cotton production, and reduce import of pulses and oilseeds.
Ajai Rana, Chairman of the Federation of Seed Industry of India, welcomed the focus on research. He suggested including hybrid seed varieties in the National Mission on High-Yielding Seeds. Raghavan Sampathkumar, Executive Director of FSII, praised efforts to promote self-sufficiency in pulses and oilseeds. He said reducing imports will strengthen food security and benefit farmers.
Susheel Kumar, Managing Director of Syngenta India, said the budget supports rural youth, women, and entrepreneurs. He said the government is helping rural youth join farming activities.
Ganesh Nanote, a cotton farmer from Maharashtra, welcomed the focus on cotton and textiles. He said higher cotton productivity will help farmers and improve domestic supply.
Dr. KC Ravi, Chief Sustainability Officer of Syngenta India, raised concerns about missing tax reforms. He said the budget does not address GST on agricultural products. He hoped for government support in the crop protection industry.
