Guwahati: To provide better care, support, and treatment for people living with HIV (PLHIV), two new Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) Centres have been inaugurated in Assam. The Kokrajhar Medical College & Hospital (KMCH) ART Centre was opened on January 30, while the ART Centre at AIIMS Guwahati was inaugurated on February 1.
The ART Centre at KMCH was inaugurated by District Commissioner Masanda M Pertin, IAS, in the presence of Dr. Atul Boro, Principal & Chief Superintendent, Dr. Bhaskar Brahma, Nodal Officer, and other medical staff. Speaking at the event, the District Commissioner said that this centre would provide crucial support to HIV patients in Kokrajhar and nearby districts. She also emphasized the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of patients.
The ART Centre at AIIMS Guwahati was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati, in the presence of Dr. Indranoshee Das, ACS, Project Director of Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) and other officials. Dr. Puranik assured that AIIMS would provide complete support, including investigations and treatment, for HIV patients. Dr. Indranoshee Das stated that this new centre is another important step in Assam’s efforts to improve ART services, especially for people in central Assam.
With these two new ART Centres, Assam now has 11 such centres operating in different medical colleges and district hospitals. These centres play a vital role in providing life-saving treatment and ensuring better healthcare for people living with HIV.
