Traffic Restrictions in Guwahati Ahead of Union Home Minister’s Visit

Guwahati: In preparation for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s upcoming visit to Guwahati on Friday, the city is implementing traffic restrictions, particularly along crucial routes like GS Road, Punjabari Road, B Barooah Road, GNB Road, MG Road, and AT Road. These restrictions, in effect from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., include limitations on slow-moving vehicles, commercial goods carriers, ASTC buses, inter-district buses, and city buses.

On the scheduled day, commercial goods-carrying vehicles (LMV, MMV, and HMV) will face restrictions on NH27 from 12 noon to 7 pm and on NH17 from 4 pm to 8 pm. However, essential vehicles such as fire trucks, ambulances, and school buses are exempted.

Amit Shah is set to inaugurate the first phase of the Brahmaputra Riverfront Development on January 20, prompting the need for seamless traffic management. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted a site inspection on January 18, emphasizing the importance of flawless execution for the event.

Additionally, on the same day, Amit Shah inaugurated a pioneering Cyber Security Operations Centre at the Assam Rifles headquarters.
