Ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi to Receive Assam Baibhav Award 2023

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a press conference on January 16, revealed the distinguished individuals to be honored with Assam’s Highest Civilian Awards. Notably, Former Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, emerges as the recipient of the Assam Baibhav Award 2023 in the field of Law and Justice.

Ranjan Gogoi, a former advocate and the 46th Chief Justice of India, commenced his legal journey on August 28, 1978. His significant contributions include serving as a permanent judge of the Gauhati High Court from February 28, 2001. The pinnacle of his tenure saw the historic verdict in the Ram Jananmbhumi – Babri Masjid title suit during his Chief Justice term in the Supreme Court of India.

Currently, Ranjan Gogoi holds the position of a Rajya Sabha Member, nominated by President Ram Nath Kovind on March 16, 2020, adding another dimension to his illustrious career.
