Robbery at Jewellery Shop in Guwahati, Suspect Arrested with Public Help

Guwahati: An unknown person robbed a jewellery shop on GNB Road, Guwahati Club, around 12:30 pm on June 12 using pepper spray. The suspect stole a box containing a golden chain and fled the scene. The shop owner and employees, along with the help of the public, chased and caught the suspect at Hedayatpur.

The police from Latasil PS soon arrived at the scene and identified the suspect as Abhishek Thakur, 22, son of the late Santosh Thakur. Abhishek, who claimed to be from Lakhimpur district, currently lives in a rented house on Mamoni Raisam Goswami Path near Kali Mandir in Chandmari.

Upon searching Abhishek’s sling bag, the police found a country-made pistol, an iPhone, and a pepper spray. The stolen box containing the golden chain was also recovered.

A search at Abhishek’s rented house led to the seizure of four live ammunition rounds, three laptops, a large knife, INR 1500 in cash, documents of an NGO named Cherished Heart Foundation, and a two-wheeler with registration number AS01-EK-4045. Abhishek was the President of this NGO and operated it from his rented house.
