Renowned Assamese Actor Jayanta Das Passes Away at 54

Guwahati: Actor Jayanta Das, known for his versatile roles and iconic performances, passed away saturday at the age of 54. The actor, who initially gained fame as a child artist in the film ‘Mukuta,’ later became a prominent figure in Assamese cinema.

His career flourished, and he became particularly celebrated for his comedic roles, notably in the television series ‘Bhara Ghar’ and the iconic Assamese film ‘Pappu Niku Saghbador Kotha.’

Admitted to Apollo Hospital in Guwahati on December 9, Jayanta Das was under critical care and on ventilation. Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta assured government support for his treatment.

The actor leaves behind a legacy of memorable performances in films like ‘Bukur Majot Jole,’ ‘Jun Jole Kopalot,’ ‘Bhumiputra,’ and many more. His passing is mourned by fans and the film fraternity. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed deep sorrow, acknowledging Das’s four-decade contribution to the acting world. Condolences pour in for his family and admirers.
