Guwahati: The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation (NEHHDC) has opened the Jewellery and Handicrafts Livelihood Business Incubator (LBI) at Bamunimaidan, Guwahati. The incubator, set up under the ASPIRE Scheme of the Ministry of MSME, will train artisans, support small businesses, and help preserve traditional crafts.
The facility has modern machines for gemstone cutting, handmade jewellery, paper products, and home décor. NEHHDC has joined hands with the Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IIGJ), Jaipur, and the Indian Institute of Crafts and Design (IICD) to provide training and new ideas for the industry.
Riniki Bhuyan Sharma opened the Jewellery Display Centre, while Dr. Lalit Sharma, Director of IIE, launched the Gemstone Section. Several dignitaries, including former MP Queen Oja, attended the event. A jewellery exhibition displayed traditional and eco-friendly designs, highlighting the Northeast’s rich craftsmanship.
