International Women’s Day Celebrated at RMC Guwahati

Guwahati: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati, celebrated International Women’s Day 2025 with great enthusiasm, focusing on women’s health and fitness. The five-day event began on March 3 and was inaugurated by K. N. Mohan, Head of RMC Guwahati. In his speech, he emphasized the need to encourage more women to join scientific fields.

Scientist-F Dr. Sanjay O’Neill Shaw congratulated all the women officers at RMC, highlighting their ability to balance multiple responsibilities while excelling in various fields. Scientist-F Sunit Das spoke about the growing presence of women in scientific roles and encouraged young girls to pursue careers in science. Ms. Anamika Sarma, Scientific Assistant, anchored the different programs during the celebration.

Throughout the event, the RMC team organized several activities, including a Fit India Pledge, a walkathon, a cycle rally, and fitness sessions on yoga, meditation, Zumba, and aerobics. Women officers at RMC were honored with tokens of appreciation for their contributions.

On March 6, special talks were conducted by experts in health and wellness. Dr. Mythili Hazarika, Head of the Department of Clinical Psychology at GMCH, spoke on “Multitasking & Modern Women,” urging women to maintain a balanced mind and avoid excessive multitasking. Dr. Manisha Choudhury, Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Science & Nutrition at Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, gave a lecture on “Diet and Nutrition,” emphasizing the importance of a balanced and nutrient-rich diet for overall well-being.

Dr. Gayatry Kalita, Scientist-D, led the various activities throughout the celebration, with active participation from officials such as Reeta Brahma Gayary, Doli Haloi, Chinmoyee Gogoi, Sayani Hossain, Sandipa Bhattacharya, Neha Tomar, Anjali Singh Chaudhary, Madhushree Bairagi, Pranita Koch, and Rumi Baruah. Their contributions helped make the International Women’s Day celebration a grand success.
