Guwahati: Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati witnessed a huge run-fest on Wednesday as India and the West Indies played a high-scoring second ODI. The two teams scored a total of 811 runs, with five centuries scored during the match.
Batting first after winning the toss, the West Indies posted a massive 405 for 7 in 50 overs. The visitors set India a target of 406 runs.
However, India made the big target look easy. The hosts chased down 406 runs in just 43.3 overs, losing only two wickets.
Captain Shubman Gill led the chase with a stunning innings of 223 runs from 133 balls. His powerful batting kept India in control throughout the innings.
Experienced opener Rohit Sharma also played a major role, scoring a century and making 101 runs. The opening pair gave India a strong start and put the West Indies bowlers under pressure.
Earlier, the West Indies also produced a strong batting performance. Amir Jangu, captain Shai Hope and John Campbell scored centuries to take their team past the 400-run mark.
Amir Jangu scored 114 runs from 77 balls, including 13 fours and three sixes.
Shai Hope made 104 runs from 94 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes.
John Campbell also scored a century, making 101 runs from 68 balls, with nine fours and five sixes.
The three West Indies centuries helped the visitors post 405 runs on the board. But India’s openers quickly changed the game with their aggressive batting.
Gill and Rohit hit boundaries regularly as the Indian chase gathered pace. Gill’s 223-run knock became the main highlight of the match, while Rohit’s century gave India a strong platform.
More than 30,000 cricket fans reportedly watched the match at Barsapara Stadium. The crowd erupted every time Indian batters hit a boundary, with Gill’s double-century creating special excitement in the stands.
With this win, India successfully chased a 406-run target and also took the ODI series against the West Indies.
Barsapara is often associated with rain, but there was no rain interruption on Wednesday. Instead, the stadium witnessed a different kind of shower — a shower of runs.
The high-scoring match will be remembered as one of the most exciting ODI games played in Guwahati, with 811 runs scored by both teams.
