Guwahati Police Enforces Sarais Act for Hotels and Lodges

Guwahati: The Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Diganta Barah, has issued an order enforcing the Sarais Act, 1867, for hotels, lodges, homestays, and private hostels in the city.

Under this Act, owners or managers of these establishments, known as Sarais, must register their property and personal details with the Office of the Commissioner of Police. They are not allowed to accept guests or allow anyone to stay until this registration is complete.

Additionally, owners must report the details of all guests who stayed overnight to the local police station. Failure to follow these rules can lead to penalties, including the possible closure of the Sarai.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Intelligence), Guwahati, has been authorized to handle the registration process on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
