Guwahati: Guwahati City Football Club emerged champions of the 3rd Assam State Futsal Championship after defeating Akash FC 2-0 in a penalty shootout in the final held in Guwahati on Thursday.
The closely contested summit clash ended goalless in regulation time, forcing the match into penalties. Guwahati City FC kept their composure during the shootout, successfully converting their chances while their goalkeeper delivered a crucial performance to seal the victory.
With the win, Guwahati City FC secured qualification for the prestigious AIFF Club Futsal Championship, where the club will represent Assam at the national level.
This is Guwahati City FC’s second Assam State Futsal Championship title in the last three years, further strengthening their position as one of the leading futsal clubs in the Northeast.
The club had earlier scripted history during the 2023-24 season by becoming the first club from Assam to participate in the AIFF Futsal Club Championship held in Vadodara, Gujarat. Their participation was considered a major milestone for futsal in the state.
Over the years, the club has built a strong reputation through consistent performances, tactical discipline and squad depth, emerging as a benchmark for futsal teams across Assam.
The latest title is being seen as another significant achievement for Assam football, with Guwahati City FC now aiming to improve on their previous national campaign and further establish the state’s presence in Indian futsal.
