Guwahati: The Guwahati Sports Association organised its Annual Award Ceremony 2026 on May 22 at the 91 Yards Club Auditorium, ACA Stadium Complex, Barsapara, to honour athletes, teams and officials for their performances in various state-level competitions during the 2024–25 and 2025–26 seasons.
Players and teams from athletics, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and cricket were felicitated with gamochas and mementoes for their achievements.
In athletics, Guwahati district won eight gold and nine silver medals at the 46th State Level Inter-District Junior and Senior Athletic Meet held in Morigaon in December 2024.
In basketball, the Guwahati girls’ team won the All Assam U-17 Inter-District Championship and finished runners-up in the U-14 and U-19 tournaments. The Guwahati boys’ team also finished runners-up in the U-14 Inter-District Championship 2025.
In volleyball, the Guwahati men’s team won the Beach Volleyball Championship 2025 at Dhubri and finished runners-up in the 60th All Assam Senior Inter-District Volleyball Championship. The junior boys’ team also secured runners-up position in the Junior Inter-District Championship.
Guwahati district was declared Best District Team in the 72nd and 73rd Inter-District and Assam State Table Tennis Championships after winning several gold medals in different categories.
In cricket, the Guwahati U-14 boys’ team won the 2nd and 3rd Pulin Das Inter-District tournaments, while the U-19 boys’ team won the J.K. Barooah Trophy 2025. The senior men’s team finished runners-up in the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy 2026–27 after losing the final to North Frontier Railway Sports Association.
During the programme, Devajit Saikia was felicitated for his re-election as Honorary Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and his reappointment as Advocate General of Assam.
The event was attended by GSA president Paresh Chandra Das, office bearers, ACA officials, former cricketers and sports personalities.
