Guwahati : Guwahati International Airport Limited (GIAL) marked the successful completion of two years of its 50-year concession period for operating, managing, and developing Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati. The airport was handed over to GIAL, an Adani Airports company, by AAI on October 8, 2021.
The celebration took place at the current terminal building and was attended by GIAL staff, officers, and other airport stakeholders. Senior officers of GIAL and Senior Commandant of CISF Mr. L.M. Thakur shared their thoughts and reflected on the journey during the celebration.

Over the past two years, GIAL has worked to meet airport expectations and has developed a robust Master Plan for the entire 50-year period. Their vision includes transforming the airport into a regional hub, allowing citizens to reach any major airport in the country and return home within 24 hours. In the international sector, GIAL aims to make LGBIA a regional hub for South East Asia, positioning Guwahati as the gateway to the East for international air connectivity. GIAL also plans to develop a perishable cargo market in the region.
Utpal Baruah, Chief Airport Officer, emphasized their commitment to developing a strong tourism industry in collaboration with Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya. He expressed gratitude for the support received from local citizens and governments, which has bolstered their confidence in driving economic change through improved air connectivity, making the airport an economic driver for the entire region.
