Former leader of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) Dristi Rajkhowa has expressed his plans to join politics and work for the upliftment of the people of Assam.
In an exclusive interview with The Guwahati, the former rebel leader said that times have changed significantly compared to what it was 30 years ago.
With the Centre focusing exhaustively in the development of Assam and the other parts of the northeastern region, Rajkhowa believes that joining politics will now allow him to contribute in a much robust way for the betterment of Assam.
The once hardcore ULFA leader, a close associate of ULFA (I) Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah joined the militant organisation in 1989.
After spending almost three decades in the organisation, Rajkhowa surrendered at the Indo-Bangla border in 2020.
Rajkhowa is presently engaged with farming and social work, helping unemployed youths find livelihoods through banana cultivation, lemon farming, fish farming, and piggery.
With his growing involvement in community development, Rajkhowa’s entry into politics could bring new opportunities for the people of Assam.
It is only a matter of time before he takes the final call and foray into the world of politics.
