Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that Bangladesh should think about its own narrow land routes before speaking about India’s Siliguri Corridor. This area, also called the “chicken neck”, connects northeast India to the rest of the country.
In a post on X (Twitter), CM Sarma said Bangladesh has two small land paths that are even more at risk than India’s chicken neck.
“The first one is an 80 km stretch from West Bengal’s Dakhin Dinajpur to South West Garo Hills in Meghalaya. If there’s any trouble there, Rangpur area in Bangladesh may get cut off from the rest of the country,” he wrote.
“The second one is a 28 km road from South Tripura to the Bay of Bengal. This is the only land link between Dhaka and Chittagong, which are the political and business centres of Bangladesh,” he added.
He said he was just sharing geographical facts and that such situations exist in both countries.
His comment came after a Bangladesh government adviser, Muhammad Yunus, spoke about an economic plan involving India’s northeast, Bangladesh, and Nepal. It also followed a retired Bangladeshi army officer’s remark about the northeast region, which made headlines recently.
