CM Reviews PMAY-G Fund Distribution, Promotes Gamocha Weaving Scheme

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma held a video conference today with District Commissioners and Co-District Commissioners at Janata Bhawan, Dispur. He reviewed the preparations for distributing sanction letters for the first instalment of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) funds to 3,88,358 beneficiaries on March 19, 2025.

Dr. Sarma said the distribution will happen at district and Co-district levels across 126 assembly constituencies after the main event in Palashbari. He asked officials to complete all arrangements by tomorrow.

The Chief Minister also spoke about the Gamocha distribution program under the ‘Swanirbhar Naari’ scheme. He said the Assam government is buying Gamochas directly from weavers at a fixed price, ensuring fair earnings and removing middlemen. This year, the government has bought 6.5 lakh Gamochas and plans to buy 10 lakh next year. He asked District Commissioners to buy directly from weavers and use them in government programs.

He also said Assam’s Gamochas are getting popular in Jharkhand, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. He urged the Chief Ministers of these states to buy Gamochas from Assam and announced plans to open Gamocha sales centers at Assam Bhavans.

Senior officials including Dr. J.B. Ekka, Dr. K.K. Dwivedi, and Keerthi Jalli attended the meeting.
