Golaghat: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Tuesday visited the site of the old Assam Co-operative Sugar Mill at Barua Bamungaon in the Khumtai constituency. The visit is part of the state government’s effort to develop new industrial areas and provide land to investors.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Sarma said that after the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, many companies have shown interest in setting up industries in the state. He mentioned that land has already been given for two new industrial projects in Numaligarh and more such projects are expected in the near future.
The Chief Minister said the land of the closed sugar mill could become a new industrial park. The land covers around 500 bighas, and the government will clear legal and administrative hurdles before using it for industrial development. He also said the government will soon build a boundary wall around the site to stop encroachment.
Dr. Sarma stressed that the government is working to protect vacant government land across the state. All district commissioners have been asked to take steps to stop illegal occupation of such land.
He added, “We want to create a strong base for industries in Assam. More industrial parks will bring investment and jobs to our state.”
Dr. Sarma was joined by MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MLAs Mrinal Saikia and Biswajit Phukan, Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, Golaghat Deputy Commissioner Pulak Mahanta, and other senior officials during the visit.
