BSF Apprehends Smuggler with Large Quantity of Sugar

Guwahati: The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt on the Indo-Bangladesh border, seizing 5,880 kgs of sugar and an engine-fitted boat. The operation took place in South Salamara Mankachar, Assam, where BSF troops apprehended an Indian smuggler.

Details of the Operation: Acting on a reliable tip-off, the vigilant troops of the 49 Bn BSF conducted a special operation in the riverine area near the Brahmaputra River. During the operation, they apprehended an Indian smuggler in possession of 5,880 kgs of sugar and an engine-fitted boat valued at Rs 3.11 lakh in South Salamara Mankachar, Assam. The consignment was intended to be smuggled from India to Bangladesh.

In separate operations, BSF troops from the 14, 90, and 138 Bn units foiled multiple smuggling attempts in Coochbehar, West Bengal. They seized 26.5 kgs of ganja, 50 bottles of prohibited cough syrup, and rescued 44 cattle heads from being smuggled across the border.

The apprehended smuggler and the seized items have been handed over to the nearest police station for further legal proceedings.
