Guwahati: Assamese jewellery, known as ‘Axomiya Gohona,’ has officially received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared this news on Wednesday.

“Our traditional jewellery, a priceless part of Assam’s culture, now has its own GI tag,” Sarma posted on X.

He recalled that the state government had proposed this step in the 2018-19 budget to protect local artisans. “I am happy to see this dream come true,” he added.
