Assam Government Workers Rally for Old Pension System

Guwahati: Employees of the state and union government in Assam are urging the restoration of the old pension system to ensure the financial security of government workers during their retirement. The demand for this change was emphasized by leaders of the All Assam Government NPS Employees Association, including President Sri Achyutananda Hazarika and General Secretary Sri Apurba Sharma.

A two-day non-cooperation protest on August 22nd and 23rd was organized to highlight their demand’s urgency. Government employees consider themselves essential to society’s progress and believe the government should ensure their retirement security through the old pension system. They emphasize that other states have restored old pensions, showing it’s possible to safeguard employees’ interests.

The NF Railway Mazdoor Union, Joint Council of Trade Unions, Assam College Teachers Association, All Assam District Administration Employees Association, Assam State Primary Teachers Association, All Assam Teachers Employees Association (2013 Provincialized, Assam Primary TET Passed Teachers Society, Assam High Schools Teachers Association, All Assam Secondary Graduate Teachers Association, All Assam Class IV Government Employees Parishad, All Assam Information and Public Relations Employees Association, All Assam Multipurpose Health Workers (Men) Association, All Assam State Pool Teachers Association, All Assam Primary Retired Teachers and Employees (Newly Provincialized) Association, All Assam Secondary School Office Assistant Association, UZMSAKS etc. gave full support while Sodou Asom Karmachari Parishad and Assam Madhyamik Teachers and Employees Association gave moral support.
