Assam Government Proposes Merger of Boards with New Education Bill

Guwahati: The Assam government has put forward a significant proposal through the introduction of a new bill aimed at consolidating the state boards responsible for classes 10 and 12. The Assam State School Education Board Bill, 2024, seeks to establish a unified body to oversee secondary education throughout the state.

Under this proposed legislation, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) will merge to form the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB). This unified board will be entrusted with the responsibility of regulating and managing the education system up to class 12.

The ASSEB will be led by a chairman appointed by the government, with individual vice-chairmen nominated to oversee specific divisions under the chairman’s jurisdiction.

“The objective is to introduce the “The Assam State School Education Board Bill, 2024″ to develop, regulate and supervise the standards and quality in School Education in the State of Assam”, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated.
