Assam Government Honours Achievers with Civilian Awards

Guwahati: The Assam government has conferred its top civilian awards—Assam Baibhav, Assam Saurav, and Assam Gaurav—on individuals and organizations for their significant contributions to the state and beyond.

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya presented the awards at a ceremony in Guwahati, attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other dignitaries.

The Assam Baibhav Award, the state’s highest civilian honour, was given to Lt Gen (retd) Rana Pratap Kalita, who retired as the Eastern Command commander of the Indian Army last year.

The Assam Saurav Award, the second-highest honour, was conferred on six individuals:

  • Subramanian Ramadorai, former CEO & MD of Tata Consultancy Services
  • Dr Bappi Paul (scientist)
  • Dr Purabi Saikia (scientist)
  • Dwipen Baruah (singer)
  • Hemanta Dutta (mobile theatre dramatist)
  • Uma Chetry (cricketer) – who was unable to attend and will receive the award at her residence.

The Assam Gaurav Award was presented to individuals and organizations for their contributions in various fields, including social work, environmental conservation, and traditional enterprise. Some notable recipients include:

  • Fuleshwari Dutta, Meenakshi Das, Parthib Gogoi, Dhirendra Nath Pal, Haridas Das, Binong Terang, Nazrul Haque, Biswajit Bora, Bharat Kalita, Barlangfa Narzari, Ram Sashoni, Upamanyu Borkakoty, David Pratim Gogoi, Chauran Ahem (a traditional food enterprise in Kaziranga)
  • Barekuri Eco Development Society (Tinsukia) – recognized for environmental conservation
  • Hati Bondhu, an NGO – honoured for its work in elephant protection.

The awards celebrate individuals and groups working towards the betterment of Assam across various fields.
