Lakhimpur: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma opened a new Waste Management and Compost Plant in North Lakhimpur on September 4. The plant, which cost Rs. 5.75 crore, will help dispose of waste in a scientific way and make the town cleaner.
As part of the government’s efforts to reclaim wastelands, the Chandmari area of North Lakhimpur, which had been used as a dumping ground for over 40 years, has been cleared. About 16 bighas of land will now be turned into an ‘Urban Forest and Retreat Zone’ to improve the environment.
During his visit, the Chief Minister also reviewed the construction of a bridge over the Subansiri River, which is being built at a cost of Rs. 400 crore. He asked officials to complete the project on time.
Dr. Sarma also visited other projects in the district, such as the upcoming Lakhimpur Bus Terminus and a rail overbridge on Rangajan Road. Both projects are expected to improve transport in the area. The Chief Minister said his government is focused on developing the districts on the north bank of the Brahmaputra. He also mentioned plans to upgrade Lakhimpur College to a university and open a Nursing College in the district.
