New Delhi: The first-ever Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, a grand celebration of Northeast India’s cultural and economic wealth, will take place from December 6 to 8, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event on December 6, showcasing the Northeast’s pivotal role in India’s development.
Organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) through the North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC), the Mahotsav will highlight the region’s rich traditions, crafts, and economic potential. Over 250 artisans will showcase handicrafts, handlooms, and 34 GI-tagged products in state-specific pavilions.
Key attractions include the Ashtalakshmi Grameen Haat, technical sessions on women’s leadership and energy, an Investors Roundtable, buyer-seller meets, and a Design Conclave with a fashion show. Cultural performances will feature the Shillong Chamber Choir, Mizoram’s PANGPARI, and Manipur’s BASAV, among others.
The mascot, ‘Purvi,’ symbolizing the eight northeastern states, was unveiled during the curtain raiser. With themes of prosperity, tradition, and growth, the Mahotsav aims to promote cultural pride and economic opportunities, making it a significant step in India’s journey toward development.
