Guwahati: Following the announcement of the Assam Assembly election results, the NDA alliance has begun the process of forming the new government in the state. A meeting of the newly elected MLAs of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) was held at the party’s headquarters in Ambari, Guwahati, where several important decisions were taken regarding the party’s legislative leadership and government formation.
During the meeting, AGP President Atul Bora was unanimously elected as the leader of the AGP legislative party. Working President Keshab Mahanta was appointed as the deputy leader.
The party also selected Dr. Tapan Das as the secretary of the legislative party and Dharmeswar Ray as the chief whip to strengthen its internal organization.
The meeting also formally backed Himanta Biswa Sarma for the post of Chief Minister. AGP legislators said his leadership, administrative efficiency and development-focused approach over the last five years had helped Assam move forward, and expressed confidence that the progress would continue under his leadership.
Senior AGP leaders and MPs Birendra Prasad Baishya and Phani Bhusan Choudhury attended the meeting as observers and shared suggestions on the party’s future political direction.
The newly elected MLAs also resolved to work together for the development of their constituencies and the overall growth of Assam, with focus on indigenous issues, social justice and economic progress.
