Guwahati: Commuters travelling through the Chandmari area have been advised to avoid using the existing Chandmari flyover for the next 30 days as construction work begins to connect it with the upcoming GNB flyover.

According to a traffic advisory issued on Saturday, vehicle movement on the flyover will be restricted in phases. Each lane of the flyover will remain closed alternately for 15 days, leading to a total construction period of 30 days. During this time, traffic will be allowed only on one lane at a time.

To reduce inconvenience, the traffic police have suggested alternative routes for commuters.

For vehicles coming from Zoo Road side:
Vehicles can move towards Rajgarh Road either through Apurba Sinha Path or directly via Rajgarh Road. From Rajgarh Road, commuters may travel through South Sarania Road, GS Road, and Dr B Baruah Road to reach GNB Road.

For vehicles coming from Chandmari side:
Vehicles can proceed towards Bamunimaidam using MRD Road. From MRD Road, commuters may either go towards Hatigarh Chariali via Railway Colony Road or take the Noonmati–Mathgharia route.

Special instructions have also been issued for city buses. Bus drivers have been directed to strictly follow lane discipline and operate only on the left-most lane. Overtaking has been prohibited to avoid traffic congestion in the Chandmari area.

The advisory also reiterated an earlier decision of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), which makes left-lane driving mandatory for city buses throughout their route. As per permit rules, diesel-run city buses are not allowed to overtake from the left or overtake buses running on the same route.

Traffic police have requested commuters to cooperate, follow the advisory, and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays during the construction period.
