Guwahati: Assam’s youth can become a major force for industrialisation, employment and entrepreneurship if supported by strong policies, skill development and industry participation, experts said during a webinar.
The webinar, titled “Assam’s Youth and Viksit Bharat 2047: Pathways to Industrialisation, Employment and Entrepreneurship”, was organised by ACTION NGO and the Forum for Indian Journalists on Education, Environment, Health & Agriculture (FIJEEHA), in collaboration with the NSS Cell of Gauhati University, with support from Cairn Oil & Gas.
Speakers highlighted that more than one-third of Assam’s population is in the 15–34 age group, giving the state a strong demographic advantage. They said this youth potential can be converted into long-term economic growth through industry engagement and skill-based education.
Pranjit Tamuli of the Indian Chamber of Commerce said long-term industry involvement can create local jobs and strengthen Assam’s economy. Dr Ranjan K. Kakati of Gauhati University said the National Education Policy’s focus on skills and practical learning would help improve employability.
Journalist Chandrani Sinha noted a trend of young people returning to Assam due to improving job opportunities. Entrepreneur Priyanka D Patwari stressed the need for a strong ecosystem to support youth-led enterprises, while development expert Mriganku Bahak said growth must benefit rural and semi-urban areas as well.
The webinar encouraged dialogue between youth, academia, industry and civil society to support Assam’s development goals.
