Guwahati: Soldiers of the Indian Army rescued a young woman from drowning in the River Brahmaputra near Saraighat Bridge on January 14, 2026, at around 4 pm.
The soldiers of the 236 Inland Water Transport Operational Unit were on routine duty near Sadilapur Ghat when they heard cries for help from under the bridge. They immediately rushed to the spot using a safety boat and pulled the woman out of the river.
The woman was given first aid on the rescue boat. She was later identified as 21-year-old Barakha Das, a resident of Ullubari, Guwahati. After her condition stabilised, she was handed over to Pandu Police Station for further action.
The rescue was carried out by Army personnel Ali Mohammad, Rajender Singh, Subhash Chandra and Magan Singh.
The timely action of the Army prevented a tragedy and once again showed their commitment to saving lives beyond duty.
