Mumbai: Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) commenced commercial operations Thurseday, marking a major boost to Mumbai’s aviation capacity. Developed and operated by Adani Airports Holdings Limited, the new airport is designed to ease congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and establish a multi-airport system for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The first commercial flight, IndiGo 6E460 from Bengaluru, landed at 8:00 am with a water cannon salute. On Day One, NMIA handled 48 flights to nine domestic destinations, serving over 4,000 passengers.
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani welcomed the inaugural passengers and praised the collective effort behind the project. With cultural performances, participation from airline leaders and a drone show on the eve of launch, NMIA opens a new gateway for Mumbai’s future growth and connectivity.
