Chandubi: A Sericulture Resource Centre (SRC) was launched in Chandubi with support from the Central Silk Board and Project KASURIKA – Living for Tomorrow of NABARD. The initiative, implemented in collaboration with SELCO Foundation and AVACreations Social Impact Foundation, aims to empower 110 women by promoting Eri sericulture as a home-based, climate-resilient livelihood.

The centre will serve as a hub for training, technology demonstrations, and access to quality Seri-inputs. A Common Facility Centre with rearing and spinning equipment has also been set up to improve production, while dedicated nurseries will ensure year-round silkworm feed, reducing dependence on forests and lowering human-wildlife conflict.

The project will focus on the native Barduar Eri silk variety, which yields higher silk thread output. It is expected to raise the annual earnings of participating women from about ₹2,000–₹2,500 to nearly ₹50,000.

The Central Silk Board has provided ₹4 lakh for infrastructure, NABARD has sanctioned ₹24.69 lakh for nurseries, equipment, and a grainage building, SELCO Foundation has installed a 2.5 KVA solar system, and AVACreations has invested ₹11.48 lakh for on-ground management and training.

Officials present at the launch said the project would strengthen the sericulture ecosystem, support women’s livelihoods, and contribute to sustainable development goals. The Borduar cluster is expected to become a model for similar interventions in Assam and beyond.
