The third edition of the Meghalaya Pineapple Festival was inaugurated at Dilli Haat, New Delhi, celebrating the state’s organic produce and agri-success. Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma led the opening ceremony, drawing attention to Meghalaya’s journey in transforming agriculture and farmer livelihoods.
Highlighting Meghalaya’s growing presence in India’s fruit market, the state government signed three key MoUs with Reliance Fresh, Amazon Karigar, and Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters. These agreements aim to boost national visibility, procurement, and distribution of products like pineapple, coffee, jackfruit, and more.
Minister Chouhan praised Meghalaya’s organic produce and said, “I have never tasted pineapples this sweet. The soil of Meghalaya adds a unique flavour.” He assured full support from the central government and encouraged Delhiites to visit the festival.
Chief Minister Sangma shared that Meghalaya produces about 1.5 lakh metric tonnes of pineapple each year, with much of it consumed within the Northeast. He said the state has set up processing units and aims to build one in each of its 55 blocks to improve packaging and quality.
In recent years, Meghalaya has developed strong infrastructure for cold storage and logistics. In 2024 alone, the state exported 682 metric tonnes of processed pineapple to global markets and sold over 150 metric tonnes in Indian metros.
This year’s festival includes product stalls, food tastings, B2B meets, and cultural shows by musicians from Garo, Khasi, and Jaintia Hills under the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project. These performances will be held at both Dilli Haat and India Gate during the three-day event.
The Pineapple Festival 2025 is open to the public at Dilli Haat, INA, from 11 AM to 8:45 PM daily until August 3. Entry is free.
