Guwahati: Guwahati has won the Promising Swachh Shehar Award in the 3–10 lakh population category in the Swachh Survekshan 2024 rankings, announced at Vigyan Bhawan on Thursday.

The city secured 44th rank nationally in its category — a big step forward in Guwahati’s cleanliness journey. The award recognises the city’s improved efforts in sanitation and waste management under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The Mayor of Guwahati Municipal Corporation thanked residents and officials, saying this success came through teamwork and regular efforts to keep the city clean. He added that Guwahati will continue to improve its cleanliness standards.

The Swachh Survekshan survey, held every year by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, ranks cities based on solid waste management, cleanliness near water bodies, and public feedback. Guwahati’s recognition highlights its commitment to making the city cleaner and healthier for everyone.

Officials said this award is just a beginning, and the city will keep working towards even better sanitation for all its citizens.
