Guwahati: Okram Prasanth Singh, an RTI activist from Guwahati, has appealed to the government to include Assamese language in the UPSC question papers. Speaking at a press meet at the Dispur Press Club today, Singh highlighted the need for equal opportunities for Assamese-speaking candidates.

Singh pointed out that since 1979, the General Studies Paper I in the Civil Services Preliminary Exam has only been available in English and Hindi. While candidates can write answers in the Mains Exam in any Eighth Schedule language or English, the question papers remain limited to English and Hindi.

He explained that IAS aspirants often begin their learning process in their mother tongue, which helps shape their understanding and thinking. Singh believes that offering Assamese as an option will enable candidates from Assam to compete more effectively.

He urged the government to support Assamese-speaking candidates by including the language in the UPSC exams.
