Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has launched a unique Rail Coach Restaurant at Uzan Bazar riverfront, opposite Jahaj Ghat , Guwahati. The inauguration ceremony was led by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of NFR, along with senior officials from its Headquarters and Lumding Division.
This innovative initiative repurposes decommissioned train coaches into aesthetically designed restaurants, blending railway nostalgia with local heritage. The newly opened Guwahati restaurant joins a network of 17 Rail Coach Restaurants across NFR, which have become popular for their unique ambiance and quality dining experiences.
The Guwahati Rail Coach Restaurant features heritage-inspired decor reflecting local culture and offers a diverse menu of food, snacks, and beverages. Open to rail passengers, tourists, and local residents, it provides an inclusive dining destination by the riverfront.
In addition to enhancing passenger experiences, the project promotes sustainable revenue generation and creates employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers.
