Guwahati: Dispur College in Guwahati has announced two new initiatives for transgender students. Starting from the 2023-24 academic session, the college will reserve five seats each in the Arts and Commerce streams for transgender students.
Dr. Navajyoti Borah, the Principal, shared that two deserving transgender students will be granted free admission, provided they submit the required documents. Those without a Below Poverty Line (BPL) card can apply with an affidavit. The college aims to encourage more transgender students to pursue higher education.
Furthermore, the college has already established separate washrooms for transgender individuals and actively supports community initiatives. It has also implemented the GENDER CHAMPION program, organizing awareness activities to educate students about transgender individuals.
