Guwahati: Borluit Productions has officially launched the promotional campaign for its debut Assamese feature film Dipholu with a special tribute to late singers Zubeen Garg and Gayatri Hazarika, whose voices feature in the film.

The event marked the beginning of the film’s journey towards its theatrical release on August 21, 2026. Filmmakers, music lovers, media representatives and admirers of the two legendary singers attended the programme.

A major highlight of the event was the release of Xorogi Xopun, a romantic duet sung by Zubeen Garg and Gayatri Hazarika. The song is considered special as it is among the final recorded works of the two celebrated artistes.

Director Nekib said the team chose to begin the film’s promotions with a tribute instead of a conventional song launch. He described the song as an emotional part of the film and remembered the experience of working with both singers.

According to the filmmakers, Xorogi Xopun plays an important role in the story of Dipholu, connecting themes of love, humour, responsibility and social awareness.

Apart from Zubeen Garg and Gayatri Hazarika, the film’s soundtrack also features voices of Rupali Kashyap, Rakesh Reeyan and Montumoni Saikia. The lyrics have been written by Nekib, while the music has been composed by Jekiv.

Members of Jontro, the band closely associated with Zubeen Garg, also attended the event and paid tribute to the late singers.

Produced by Jekiv and directed by Nekib, Dipholu marks Borluit Productions’ first feature film after receiving recognition for short films such as Rong – The Colour and Akaax Bisari – Into the Sky.

Set against the backdrop of Assamese village life, the film combines humour, emotion and a social message while showcasing the culture and traditions of Assam. The cast includes Amrita Gogoi, Subrat Deori, Arun Nath, Arun Hazarika, Rajib Dowari and veteran actress Mridula Barua in a special appearance.

With the tribute event, the makers said they wanted to honour the lasting legacy of Zubeen Garg and Gayatri Hazarika before bringing their final songs to audiences through the film.
