Guwahati: Modern English School successfully organised the Regional Inter-School Badminton Championship 2026 on May 9 and 10 at the Modern Badminton Academy in Kahilipara.
More than 250 students from different schools across Guwahati participated in the two-day championship, which was organised under the Modern School of Languages, Sports and Performing Arts.
The tournament featured competitions in Under-9 to Under-17 categories for both boys and girls in singles and doubles events. Young players displayed strong performances, sportsmanship and competitive spirit throughout the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Jonali Das said the championship aimed to encourage young sporting talent and promote holistic development among students. She thanked participants, coaches, referees, parents and the MES Sports team for making the event successful.
Several young shuttlers from schools across the city won titles in different categories. Among the major winners were Devanshi Bhuyan in Under-9 Girls, Riyan Raj Deka in Under-9 Boys, Pragya Sundari Baruah in Under-11 Girls Singles, Kabyanil Roy in Under-11 Boys Singles, and Nandika Baruah, who won both Under-15 and Under-17 Girls Singles titles.
In the Under-17 Boys Singles category, Arjir Hazarika emerged as champion.
The organisers said the strong response from schools and parents has encouraged them to make the championship an annual sporting event in the future.
