Guwahati: Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal reaffirmed his commitment to Assam’s progress after attending Advantage Assam 2.0. In a social media post, he praised Assam’s growth trajectory, rich culture, and strong tea industry, while outlining ideas to make the state a global oil-producing hub.

Agarwal emphasized Assam’s strategic potential in oil and gas, suggesting a model like the U.S., where small oil wells enable start-ups and entrepreneurs to participate. He called for simplified clearances, financial incentives, and increased exploration to boost domestic oil and gas production, reducing import dependency and energy costs.

He also highlighted Assam’s tea industry, which produces over 50% of India’s tea, and suggested supporting small and medium-sized tea estates with fewer regulations to create jobs and promote boutique brands globally.

Agarwal shared his experience at the Jhumoir Binandini event, where 8,000 tea community members performed, calling it a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for playing the Dhomsa drum, which energized the entire stadium.

Vedanta’s oil and gas subsidiary, Cairn Oil & Gas, has pledged a ₹50,000 crore investment in Assam, targeting 100,000 barrels of oil production per day and creating one lakh jobs. The company is also supporting Assam’s development through CSR initiatives, including Nand Ghars, digital classrooms, and handloom skill centers.
