Training on Wildlife Crime Detection Held at Assam Forest School

Guwahati: A two-day training program on Wildlife Offence Detection, Investigation, and Law Enforcement was held at Assam Forest School, Jalukbari. Funded by APFBC, the training was inaugurated by Rohini Ballav Saikia, IFS, and Dibakar Deb, Silviculturist, Assam.

The program aimed to equip forest staff with essential skills in investigating wildlife crimes. Pranjal Baruah, AFS Forest Ranger, Pobitora Range, conducted detailed sessions on wildlife laws and crime investigation procedures. Jawaharlal Boro, Assistant Director, Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), provided insights into illegal wildlife trade and showcased seized wildlife articles.

On the second day, 40 trainees participated in a mock drill at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, simulating real-life wildlife crime investigations, including rhino poaching, deer hunting, and smuggling cases. The exercise focused on crime scene investigation, evidence collection, and legal documentation to improve conviction rates in wildlife cases.

Dibakar Deb emphasized the importance of such training in strengthening law enforcement and ensuring stricter action against wildlife offenders.
