Guwahati: Trouble has surfaced in the Assam unit of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as state president Romen Chandra Borthakur has filed a police complaint against senior vice president Dulu Ahmed, accusing him of threats and abusive messages.
Romen Borthakur submitted an FIR at Dispur Police Station on May 7. In the complaint, he said that on May 2, Dulu Ahmed sent him several WhatsApp messages between 1:25 PM and 1:36 PM, using bad language and threatening him. He also claimed that Ahmed abused him verbally at his office in Khanapara, Guwahati, because Borthakur had not replied to his messages for the past few weeks.
Speaking to The Guwahati, Romen Borthakur confirmed that he filed the FIR and left for Kolkata the same day. He also said that he plans to write to higher authorities about the matter.
On the other side, Dulu Ahmed did not deny the messages but accused Borthakur of misusing party funds. “Yes, I told him he will have to answer for the financial problems in the party,” Ahmed said. He also alleged that money given by the party for panchayat elections was not used properly. “Many TMC workers in Assam are unhappy with him,” he added.
A senior police officer at Dispur Police Station said they have received the complaint but have not officially registered it yet. “We are checking the evidence. Once we verify everything, we will register the FIR,” the officer said.
This incident has caused tension in Assam TMC, with questions being raised about internal issues in the party.
