Sipajhar: A group of students held a protest on May 16 in Sipajhar, Darrang district, Assam, demanding the government to bring back the earlier rules of the Pragyan Bharati Scooty Scheme.

The Pragyan Bharati Scooty Scheme 2025, launched by the Assam Government, provides free scooters to students who score 80% or more in the Higher Secondary Final Exam 2025 conducted by ASSEB. The merit list for the scheme was released on May 11.

In earlier years, this scheme was only for girl students who scored 60% or more in the exam. Students said that the new rule is unfair and should be changed back to the previous format.

The protesting students raised slogans like “We want scooties,” “We want justice,” and “Restore the Pragyan Bharati scheme” during their demonstration in the streets of Sipajhar.

One student protester said, “This scheme is very helpful. It is unfair that the rule changed, and we were informed just two months before our exam. The government should think again. We want justice.”

Another protester said, “The exam pattern was the same as last year, so the scheme should also stay the same.”

However, some people on social media criticized the protest. They said that students should focus on their studies, and if they work hard and get good marks, they can succeed without depending on such schemes.
